On January 19th, this coming Saturday, tens of thousands of people will flood the streets of Los Angeles, for the third Women’s March. Protests like this represent an important moment in history and they need to be covered.

The photographer’s job is to translate the pulse of the event into images that embrace the spirit of the occasion, and on a greater scale tell the story of a certain turning point in time. Images from a demonstration like this hold real power and will reach millions of people across the globe.

This workshop focuses specifically on photographing a protest. From the tiny details to the big picture, we’ll share with you our years of experience, giving you the skills to confidently tell the story and produce timeless images.

Some of the things we’ll go over include:

  • Mapping out the situation, staying safe
  • What gear to bring and not to bring
  • What to wear
  • How to maintain focus amidst the wild energy and raw emotion
  • How to use camera features to capture emotion
  • Creating a unique story line
  • Gathering information

Documenting change like this is part of our responsibility. Join us as we immerse ourselves in the Women’s Wave and walk away with indelible images to show the world what happened on January 19th, 2019.
