MISSION

Atwater Photo Workshops are intensive photography learning experiences that expand technical abilities and liberate creative vision.

We provide a supportive community designed to inspire photographers of all levels. We build confidence in technical skills so that you can focus on your artistic endeavors, and we embrace your work, ultimately providing you a forum to make it grow.

The instructors are working photographers who have been in the industry for years, and theyโ€™ll share with you everything theyโ€™ve learned along the way.

So if itโ€™s a beginning class to introduce the basics or you need help executing the big idea youโ€™ve had for years, APW will take your work to the next level.MISSION

Who we are:
We launched Atwater Photo Camp in Los Angeles in 2018. Combining decades of teaching experience, we empower kids with a visual language to express themselves. Ultimately we inspire kids to experience the world in a deeper way.

What we do:
Atwater Photo Summer Camp engages children in a supportive environment that nurtures their unique creativity. We promote collaboration by encouraging students to help each other take ownership of their learning. At its core, we cultivate confidence and character through connection.

Students progress from a basic overview of camera functions to advanced techniques throughout the week, culminating in a final presentation where they exhibit their work to family and friends. All images from the week are available for download via an online gallery.

How weโ€™ve grown:

How you can help:
Weโ€™re always aiming to keep costs down for campers. To that end, we are looking for four main things:
– scholarships
– cameras
– studio space
– transportation

They are outlined HERE and can be tailored to suit your donation level.
Thank you!

How weโ€™ve grown:
After two years of incredible camp, the pandemic hit. The day after pandemic shutdown, we saw an unique opportunity: we went online with a special Zoom schedule that minimized screen time and maximized camper engagement. We met three times a day and in between sessions, children had the opportunity to work on their projects. It was a massive success, attracting campers from 28 states, Canada and Europe, who partnered with kids from completely different backgrounds. This exciting cross-cultural program injected our days with a palpable energy and inherently infused our program with empathy. This perfectly embraced our core values.

Reemerging in the post pandemic world presented physical and emotional challenges for all of us. Among them, social distancing was required. Another opportunity. We developed an imaginative approach to keep us outside, which has become an integral dimension to our daily itineraries today.

Our studio is positioned near a park with playground, and a world of things to see is just steps outside the door. Two to four days a week, we are on location, which means we are out exploring our city. We pack a lot into our daily adventures and itโ€™s been reported that our campers sleep well at night!
